Martes, 06 de Diciembre de 2011 17:00 |
Increased environmental degradation, environmental legislation and a drive towards greater environmental protection have created a demand for scientists skilled in the assessment of environmental resources and problems associated with their exploitation. This interdisciplinary programme aims to broaden the training and experience of students whose first degree was in biology, environmental science, hydrology, physical geography or a related subject. It also aims to equip you with the skills required for employment within the environmental assessment industry, or in governmental and non-governmental organisations which have statutory involvement in the environment.
For the MSc you take 70 credits of compulsory taught modules and select 30 credits of optional modules. You also complete a research project leading to a thesis (80 credits) that may be undertaken overseas. For the Diploma you take the same 100 credits of taught modules, but complete a short 20-credit, library-based dissertation. Compulsory modules include: ecological survey techniques; environment and habitat assessment field class; GIS and remote sensing; environmental assessment – land and water resources; environmental systems and modelling; sustainable development and environmental change; and a foundation module in quantitative techniques, experimental design and data analysis. Optional modules (10 credits each) include: trees – growth, management and environmental impacts; environmental and rural resource economics; soil and water conservation; land reclamation; tropical environments ecology and land use; habitat mapping and resource assessment; environmental impact assessment; pesticides – use and environmental properties; wildlife conservation – policy and practice; and ecosystem management. You may be asked to contribute to the cost of essential field classes; some financial assistance may be available. Convocante:University of Newcastle -Fundación BecaPlazo:31 de mayo 2012 Leer más:
